How to enable 2FA for your Facebook account

A step-by-step guide on how to set up two-factor authentication (2FA) for your Facebook account using Authenticator App. With 2FA enabled, signing in requires both your password and a temporary verification code — keeping your account safe even if your password is stolen.

1

Download Authenticator App

First, download the Authenticator ℠ App on your Apple device. Click the button below or scan the QR code with your iPhone camera.

Add Facebook to your Authenticator App

Open the Authenticator App on your iPhone and tap the + button. Either choose manual entry and paste the secret key (filling in the service and account name), or choose Photo/File to scan the screenshot of the QR code and add the account automatically.

Save your recovery codes

After two-factor authentication is on, save the recovery codes Facebook provides somewhere safe. Each works once and lets you log in if you ever lose access to your authenticator app.

Backup & recovery

Facebook provides a set of one-time recovery (backup) codes you can use to log in when you don't have access to your authenticator app. Save them somewhere secure; each code works once. You can view, save, or regenerate a new set of recovery codes later from the two-factor authentication settings in Accounts Center (Password and security). The exact recovery-code labels were not confirmable from the (truncated) official pages, so this is described generically.

That's it — your Facebook account is now protected with two-factor authentication. If you have any issues during setup, visit the official Facebook help page. Stay safe!
