How to enable 2FA for your TikTok account
Updated June 5, 2026
A step-by-step guide on how to set up two-factor authentication (2FA) for your TikTok account using Authenticator App. With 2FA enabled, signing in requires both your password and a temporary verification code — keeping your account safe even if your password is stolen.
Download Authenticator App
Open TikTok and find your security settings
Two-step verification is set up in the TikTok mobile app. Open TikTok while signed in, tap Profile in the bottom-right corner, then tap the three-lines menu icon in the top-right corner.

Go to Settings and privacy, then Security
Tap the gear icon to open Settings and privacy. On the next screen, tap Security (this section is sometimes labeled Security and permissions depending on your app version).

Choose the Authenticator app method
Tap 2-step verification, then pick your verification methods. Select Authenticator app (TikTok requires at least two methods, so you may also keep Password selected), then tap Turn on to begin setup.

View the QR code TikTok shows
TikTok now displays a QR code that contains your secret key. Because setup happens on the same phone, take a screenshot of this screen so you can import the code into the Authenticator App in the next step.

Import the QR code into your Authenticator App
Open the screenshot you just took, tap the share icon in the top-right corner, and choose the Authenticator App from the list of apps. This hands the QR code straight to the app to read.

Save the TikTok account in your Authenticator App
After reading the QR code, the Authenticator App automatically fills in the TikTok account name and secret key. Tap Save to add the account and start generating codes.

Enter the verification code to confirm
Copy the 6-digit code now shown for TikTok in your Authenticator App, return to TikTok, paste it into the Enter verification code field, and confirm to finish enabling 2-step verification.

Add a second backup method
TikTok does not give you downloadable backup codes, so set up an extra verification method such as Text message or Email. That way you can still sign in if you ever lose access to your Authenticator App.
Backup & recovery
TikTok does not provide downloadable backup or recovery codes for two-step verification. Instead, TikTok's official guidance is to enable more than one verification method (for example Text message and/or Email in addition to the authenticator app) so you have a fallback way to receive a code and sign in if you lose access to your authenticator app.
That's it — your TikTok account is now protected with two-factor authentication. If you have any issues during setup, visit the official TikTok help page. Stay safe!
