How to enable 2FA for your Electronic Arts (Origin) account

Updated June 5, 2026

A step-by-step guide on how to set up two-factor authentication (2FA) for your Electronic Arts (Origin) account using Authenticator App. With 2FA enabled, signing in requires both your password and a temporary verification code — keeping your account safe even if your password is stolen.

1

Download Authenticator App

First, download the Authenticator ℠ App on your Apple device. Click the button below or scan the QR code with your iPhone camera.

2

Open your EA Account Settings

While signed in on the EA website, go to your EA Account portal and open the Security and Privacy tab where your account safety options are listed.

3

Find Two-factor authentication

Locate Two-factor authentication and select the right arrow to open its settings.

4

Select Turn On and choose Authenticator app

Select Turn On, then choose Authenticator app as your authentication method and select Continue. If prompted, choose your device from the dropdown menu.

5

Scan the QR code with your Authenticator App

When EA shows the barcode, open the Authenticator App on your iPhone, tap the + button, and scan the QR code shown by Electronic Arts. If you cannot scan it, choose Manual entry and type in your EA Account email address and the Secret Key shown on screen instead.

6

Enter the 6-digit verification code

Read the 6-digit code shown in your Authenticator App and enter it back on the Electronic Arts setup screen, then select Save to confirm.

7

Save your backup codes

Back on the Security and Privacy tab, go to Backup Codes and select View. Write these codes down and keep them somewhere safe, as they are the only way to sign in from a new device if you lose access to your authenticator app.

Backup & recovery

EA provides backup codes as the recovery method. After turning on 2FA, view them on the Security and Privacy tab of your EA Account portal via Backup Codes -> View. They can be renewed from the same place. If you lose your phone, the authenticator app fails, or you can't access your email, these backup codes are the only way to sign in to your EA Account from a new device, so write them down and store them safely.

That's it — your Electronic Arts (Origin) account is now protected with two-factor authentication. If you have any issues during setup, visit the official Electronic Arts (Origin) help page. Stay safe!
